Articulation is Professionalism, which is is simply the ability to speak words clearly and effectively. When we articulate our spoken words well, the expression of any idea, becomes sharp. It entails speaking well, by using clear and distinct sounds to communicate words and express our ideas or feelings clearly.
Naturally, it would be fairly accurate to say that people, who are articulate in their speech, appear more professional.
For many, articulation is a huge obstacle that prevents them from appearing to be more professional, especially when making presentations, or when conveying ideas at important meetings. If this is you, fret not! Here are three ways that can help you to improve your articulation.
So How Do I Improve My Articulation?
- Listen to the way Professional Speakers Speak
Many a time, what helps us to sound nice and articulate our words better, would be inspiration that we get from people who speak well, and who carry themselves well.
As humans, it’s only natural that we compare ourselves with others, so perhaps, instead of trying to completely do away with our comparative nature, why not use it to better ourselves? Being motivated by a role model always helps us to push ourselves to be better. In our aim to perfect our speaking skills we can be inspired by people who speak well. Perhaps, we could try to imitate the way they speak.
So do watch some TED talks or even search YouTube for some outstanding speeches.
- Record Yourself
With modern technology, it’s easy to do this. While this step may seem unnecessary, you’d be surprised at how you actually sound to others. Take the time to record yourself reading from a script. Then, listen to yourself without reading the script. You may or may not be able to make out what you’re saying. It is then that you will be able to make the necessary improvements, and articulate your words better. It is only then that you will be able to sound more professional.
- Ask Others for Feedback
This is probably the most crucial step. Don’t forget. It’s all about the audience. Take the time to ask the people around you if they can understand you when you speak, if your words are crisp and clear, and if there’s any improvements that you can make.
