Hello everyone! Welcome back to Part 5 of ‘How To Make Your Singlish Sound Better’.
As you might have realised from previous blogs that emphasising certain letters of your words can make whatever we say sound extremely crisp. Today we will focus on articulation with the help of dear old letter ‘S’.
How exactly do we make words with this letter sound more pronounced?
Let’s have a look at an example below:
“Sam slurped super soggy noodles”.
How can we improve on the way this sentence sounds? Let’s have a look at the same sentence with the following changes added.
“Sssam ssslurped sssuper sssoggy noodles.”
Try saying this new sentence. How did that sound? Wasn’t that just sssmashing?
The key to making our ‘S’s sound really distinct is to drag them out. It is a conscious effort so remember to continue practising to sssound sssuper sssoon!
