Welcome back once more! In this series, we share tips and tricks that can improve the sound of your voice. We also share that the bulk of it comes from great articulation.
For today, we focus on 2 letters that actually share the same sound – letter C and letter K. Did you know that just like letters S, P, and T, that these letters are voiceless consonants?
What does it mean to be a voiceless consonant? A voiceless consonant is a consonant that is produced without vibration of the vocal cords, and instead uses air. How we can improve on clarity of these letters is actually to make sure that we focus on pushing air out of our mouths. Air forms most of the sound of these letters.
Let us try practicing reading aloud some Tongue Twisters that have letters C and K as their focus:
- A cup of proper coffee in a copper coffee cup
- Kate catches Ken and kicks her quickly.
When practicing these letters, take note not only to sound out the ‘C’s and the ‘K’s, but also to sound them out right. Once you feel that you have nailed these sounds, try articulating all the other letters in conjunction with ‘C’ and ‘K’. Use the same sentence examples provided above.
Remember that great articulation is not just zooming in on 1 or 2 letters – It is the focus placed on sounding out a combination of letters that make up words, sentences, and our speech. We need to master all the letter sounds to sound crisp and clear.
