In this instalment, we look into a few more additional tips on how all of us can become better corporate presenters and own the room in any meeting or prevention. The focus at Be The Voice Academy is as always, on the voice and how it is the most powerful tool for effective communication.
- VARY YOUR VOICE PITCH AND SENTENCE LENGTH
Stop presenting PowerPoints in a monotone – if you sound bored, your audience will be bored too. Instead, vary your voice inflections to emphasize certain phrases. Switch up sentence length to create a sense of cadence. Pause before making an important point, and punctuate it with hand gestures or by making eye contact.
- LET YOUR PERSONALITY AND PASSION SHOW THROUGH
Steve Jobs would often make casual, personal interjections in his keynotes, saying “Wow, doesn’t that phone look doggone gorgeous?” He knew that those asides and jokes kept the reader’s attention, changing things up from time to time when people got tired from all the tech speak.
- USE SHORT COPY ON SLIDES
Too many people use their PowerPoint slides like cue cards: they type everything there and just read from it. Just put key words or even key images that encapsulate what you want to say. If you’re worried about forgetting something, use the PowerPoint Notes function – people will only see the key images on screen, but you’ll be able to read the notes off on your own laptop.
- PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE
Corporate Presentation Skills, Voice and Storytelling doesn’t come naturally to everyone. Some people get nervous about speaking in front of others, or are self-conscious about being “too dramatic”. But with enough practice you will gain confidence, and also find your own style of Corporate Presentation Skills, Voice and Storytelling. Not everyone has to be as flamboyant as Steve Jobs was on stage — even TED talks speakers have their own way of speaking and relaying information. You can even watch some of their talks to get tips and ideas, and find that one speaking style that feels the most “you.”
These are just some ways to develop Corporate Presentation Skills and Voice and Storytelling techniques. Learn the craft, and become not just a better speaker, but a more effective manager.
