I still remember the first session with a particular student. Quiet at first, observant, the kind of learner who’s already tried a few things and is searching for what actually works. That’s something I see often at Be The Voice. Many people come in thinking communication is just about getting the words right.
As a trainer, my approach has always been simple: respect your time, and focus on what truly works. Most of my students are working adults, so I structure every session to be tight, intentional and applicable.
What I emphasise early on is this: communication isn’t just about what you say. It’s about how you say it. A sentence can fall flat or come alive depending on your articulation, intonation, and the emotion you allow yourself to express.
I saw that shift happen here.
At the start, the delivery was clear but safe. Neutral. Like many professionals, the voice carried information, but not yet a story. Over time, as we worked through articulation drills and layered in context, something changed. Pauses became intentional and emphasis started to highlight meaning.
That’s when communication transforms. You’re no longer just speaking but you’re engaging.
One thing I take pride in is keeping everything easy to follow. Voice work can feel abstract if it’s not grounded properly, so I make sure every exercise has a purpose.
And when a student tells me they’ve gone from sounding “boring” to feeling like a storyteller, that’s the goal. Not performance for the sake of it, but the ability to hold attention, to connect, to make your message land.
If there’s one thing I hope every student walks away with, it’s confidence in their own voice and not a trained voice that sounds artificial, but a refined version of what’s already theirs.
Seeing students grow and hearing them want to come back is what keeps me going. The voice is a powerful tool. Most people just haven’t been shown how to use it yet.
